Department of Botany

The Department is started in the academic year 2025-26 as a new initiative of St. Xavier's College, Simdega. Teaching in the Department are amply supported by its infrastructure with modern lecture halls, fairly well equipped laboratories, glass house, plant house and herbarium facilities, books and periodicals.Our mission is to strive for an excellent environment for learning and research in plant sciences and produce graduates equipped with skills necessary to fulfill their role in contemporary society.

The Department of Botany provides quality education in the field of Plant Science. The department pursues holistic development of students by providing conventional classroom, innovative pedagogy with Botanical excursion, seminars, workshops, and Lectures.

Programmes:

  • The Department offers full time course in B.Sc. (Botany).
  • The four-year undergraduate programme in Botany is divided into eight semesters. It provides a wide range of ideas and concepts about the structure of plants, their places of growth, their classification, the functions of their parts and the terms which are utilized in their denomination and description. B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany degree program involves the study of the structure, development, growth, and metabolism an extensive variety of biological disciplines, including algae, plants, and fungi.
