Department of Chemistry

The department of chemistry in the St. Xavier’s College, Simdega is one of the newest departments established in the academic year 2025-26. The Department believes in Holistic development of learner through academic excellence, employability, acquisition of analytical skills and higher research. The Department has highly qualified, young and dynamic faculty in various fields of Sciences. The thrust area in Chemistry include Green Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Advanced controlled drug delivery systems, Nanocomposites, Physiochemical studies of biomolecules etc.

The department is growing everyday with updating infrastructural, teaching and research facilities. Most of the departmental faculty members are involved in research activities which further enriching the department in every passing days. In the coming year department has a plan to grow more in the direction of research and development both in basic as well as in applied areas of chemical sciences.

Programmes:

  • The Department offers full time course in B.Sc. (Chemistry).
  • The four-year undergraduate programme in Chemistry is divided into eight semesters. It provides a wide range of ideas and concepts about fundamental studies of chemistry's structures, properties, and reactions. Through this programme student can gain these skills while covering Physical, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry. This course examines multiple Substances, Particles, Fragments, Molecules, Crystals and other aggregates of matter, whether in isolation or alliance and which includes the concepts of energy and entropy about the spontaneity of chemical processes.
